Melroe® M400

Manufactured by Melroe® from 1960 until 1962… Considered the world’s first skid-steer loader! The Melroe® M400 is adapted from the Melroe® M200 by adding a rear axle and incorporating four-wheel drive. There were roughly 200 built during this time.
The unique use of two independent transmissions that allow it to turn in its tracks is what considers this as the first ever skid-steer.
The new Melroe® M400 loader is 6 inches longer than the Melroe® M200 and – with some tweaking – will eventually achieve a 70-30 front to rear weight ratio for optimal skid-steer performance.
For a time, it was distributed through the Farmhand dealer organization, based in Hopkins, Minnesota.
